Academy success celebrated in recent awards ceremony

Bromley Football Club were delighted to, for the first time ever, integrate the Academy end of season awards with those of the First Team in the Club’s recent virtual ceremony.

Awards were given out for each team right from U23s professional development to U12s Youth Academy, with a coaches’ and players’ player of the year award.

Prior to the awards ceremony, Academy Director Mark Hammond was on hand to summarise events of 2019/20; “It’s been phenomenal, we’re growing from strength to strength. It’s been a tough and testing time recently, but we’re all still in contact with one another. Ben May has set social distancing programmes from the U12s right through to the U23s, and there has been some really impressive data that has filtered through.”

“At the start of the season we conducted an audit when the National League were looking to launch the Category 4 scheme. We were then granted category 4 status, and within that we’ve seen our U18s at the top of their league, and who knows, they could have been returning with silverware in their first season in the National Academies League. From our U12s right through to our U18s, everyone was either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their respective divisions. In terms of recruitment, we have seen a 40% increase from 2018-19 to this season. We had 197 players, we’re now at 274 across three educational sites.”

Head of Education Tom Beaumont was also present, and prior to naming the award winners, highlighted the importance of the newly formed links with London South East Colleges and Coopers Technology College; “It’s been a fantastic step forward for us. We’re coming to the end of our fourth academic year now, and we’ve learnt that over time, when it comes to education, one size doesn’t fit all. We have a range of options, not just A-Levels or BTECs, but different courses and different campuses which will suit pupils’ needs. That’s a real advantage of ours, and it means we can equip these pupils with the best set of grades we can and set them up for their future ventures.”

The full list of award winners can be seen below.

Everyone at Bromley Football Club would like to congratulate the award winners on their achievements.

The newly assembled squad has been coached through pre-season by Tony Browne and Tom Beaumont and the added incentive of a derby day win at stake no doubt brought a further edge to the game.
